Welcome!

Ciao! Welcome to Wood ‘n’ Tones, our acoustic luthier workshop Made in Italy, specializing in the building of high quality acoustic guitars and in the selection of the finest Italian Alpine Spruce for luthiers.

The Beginning
Wood ‘n’ Tones experience started in the Spring 2020 during the covid 19 pandemic lockdown period, when Simone decided to deepen one of his greatest passions, building acoustic guitars.
New friends
After a gothic harp built and many guitar repairs during the University, Simone started building guitars in 2014 being so lucky to have been supported by some of the best luthiers in the world, Bill Collings from Collings Guitars and Chris Jenkins from Lame Horse Instruments from Texas. Their support quickly turns into friendship.
The Master
Bill is greatly missed because of his passing in 2017. Chris became his master and the relationship between the master and the apprenticegoes on in a continuous exchange of knowledge and experience.
Research & Development
Being a PhD in physics with years of experience in industrial research, at the beginning on nanomaterials for optical applications and then in the area of crystalline powder synthesis for the semiconductor industry, Chris urged him to study "Contemporary Acoustic Guitar Design and Build" by Trevor Gore and Gerard Gilet, that can be considered a milestone for guitar building.
Implications
This fruitful collaboration between Simone and Chris had a twofold result:

The Big Hoss
The development of the Big Hoss, big sister of the famous Saddle Pal model of Lame Horse Instruments
Abies
The setup of a project for studying acoustic properties of Italian Alpine Spruce soundboards available at Rivolta Tonewood, which is located 10 minutes driving from Simone’s home. This project has been named The Abies Project.
Two is better than one
A few weeks later Simone’s friend Andrea, food technologist with the passion for music and visual design, joined the project.

Andrea strongly believed in the potential of the project from day one. It's aim was (and still is) to transform this passion into a real premium Brand in the luthiery field across the world.
Let's go!
Wood ‘n’ Tones workshop and The Abies Project started operating officially from the beginning of 2021.

The Workshop

Our workshop has been constantly growing and updating since 2014, the year Simone began building his first acoustic guitar. We set up a facility equipped with a mix of hand tools, power tools, woodworking machinery and CNC machines. The workshop is now fully equipped to build high-quality guitars as well as to characterize their acoustic performances.
